WIP Wednesday- May 23, 2018

Well, since I talked about my WIP’s in my last Weekly Update, and I haven’t done anything with them since then, I don’t really have much of a WIP update. OOPS, lol.

However, in case you missed that post, here are a couple of photos (same ones as I posted in my update the other day):

The photo on the left is of my “Grenadine” doll which I first started writing about here, and the photo on the right is my remake of Olivia’s Kitty Cat.  You can read about their progress here (I don’t want to bore you with repeating myself, lol).

And finally, I have a sneak peek of the pattern I’m going to publish on Friday:

All I will say right now is that the pattern is easy peasy and a great one to use up your left over cotton yarn!

Until my next post….happy hookin!

WIP Wednesday- May 16, 2018

Another week of progress made 😁 The doll that I wrote about in last week’s WIP Wednesday is coming along nicely. I’m actually quite proud of it! Usually I am my own worst critic when it comes to designing something new.

For now, I am calling this 14 inch tall doll “Grenadine”, because that’s the primary color used.

I realize that I sewed her head on a wee bit crooked, but I’m ok with that. It adds character, lol. (She looks proud and headstrong this way, don’t you think? Lol)

Last night after Olivia went to bed I went onto YouTube and watched a few videos for inspiration and instruction on how to create lovely eyes. I usually suck at making faces, and don’t embellish with, for example,  eyelashes. I think what I did turned out well. After the hair(line) is done, I might even add eyebrows!  I don’t know if the ears are too big (the critic, again), but once the hair is added maybe they won’t look too big.

The pins on her head represent the hairline. I *think* I have brown yarn on hand, but I might not have enough. If not, Grenadine might have lilac colored hair (or blue, or red or bright orange…lol).  I know, I should’ve checked through my yarn stash before beginning this project!

Along with the hair, I have to still make her little skirt (which I SHOULD do before adding hair, so I don’t crochet her hair into the skirt!).  Oh, and probably little shoe straps, perhaps with buttons, to cover up the color change.

So, I think that’s all I have to say about Grenadine right now.

Next, here’s a sneak peek at the new free pattern I’m planning to publish on Friday coming up:

WIP Wednesday- May 9, 2018

As you can see, I’ve decided to try (again) a weekly post of my WIP’s . I did this a couple of years ago, but I didn’t keep up with it. Fingers crossed that it’ll work out this time around 🤗 (I find that since I’ve been paying for my blog I make better use of my time and make sure I keep publishing more regularly here!)

In my most recent Weekly Update I mentioned that I’m now working on an amigurumi doll. So that is the focus of this WIP Wednesday.

This is what I’ll call the “prototype “. I’m using Red Heart Super Saver,  left overs from the Ripple Blanket I made earlier this year (which is technically still a WIP since I still haven’t weaved in all of the yarn tails!).

The skin color is Aran, the clothing is Grenadine (the pink), and I’ve included little white socks. Oh, and the safety eyes are 12 mm black. There are still a few more decreasing rounds to go, to shape the top of the body, and then of course making arms and adding hair and a face to the head, and then sewing it all together. If you look closely you will see that I’ve crocheted in only the back loops around the waist; this is so I can add a little skirt attached directly onto the doll.  To cover my color changes I’ll probably add little shoe straps and a button, and when I make the second of this doll I’ll use a non-jogging color change method. I probably should’ve done that first time around! Lol

For the second version of this doll, I will be using the Mainstays brand of yarn for the body, but still in the color Aran. Red Heart use to sell a color, which I believe was called something like “blush” (?), which was better suited for flesh-tone. I couldn’t find it though when I was in the yarn aisle the other day at Walmart.  But I noticed that the Mainstays “Aran” is slightly darker than Red Heart’s , so I picked that up.  I also couldn’t find a light enough brown,  which would more closely resemble my daughter’s skin tone (I’ve used Red Heart Super Saver’s “warm brown” in the past). So the Mainstays Aran will hopefully do.

I am also thinking that I might make a boy version of the doll. But we’ll see. Or even a naked version, with removable clothing. I have so many ideas going through my head at once, lol. Just don’t hold me to any of these ideas…no guarantees or promises that I’ll do all of this! Lol.

What I’d also like to do is make animals, but for some reason I’ve never been able to make them work, unless of course I follow someone else’s pattern. I guess making/designing dolls is easier for me because I really don’t have to stop and think about their shape too much. On a side note, you can see a couple of my previous doll designs here: Valentine Doll  and Best Friends Amigurumi.

So there ya have it, my “first” WIP Wednesday.  I hope you enjoyed the read 😁
