Since it is now mandatory where I live that everyone wear a mask in public spaces, I figured I should jump on the mask-making bandwagon. This one is just for myself, but I will be trying out other patterns (hopefully some sewing ones too). I have some paper masks, but those obviously aren’t machine washable. If I have to wear a mask, I’d rather not contribute more waste to the landfill.
Pattern Used:
Red Heart Crochet Mask for Adults (there is also a knit version available). This is a very easy pattern, even for a beginner. The only thing I would change if I make anymore of these would be the length of the ties. I would make them longer so it’s easier to tie them. There’s instructions for crocheted ties, ribbon ties and elastic. I made crocheted ties because I cannot find elastic anywhere right now (or fabric for that matter). And I thought that ribbon would fray in the wash.
Materials Used:
Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Candy Collection cotton yarn- Color Lemon Line. The pattern calls for Red Heart Super Saver, but I couldn’t imagine wearing that on my face, especially in the hot weather (it’s already 90 degrees where I live, and almost always sunny!)
5 mm hook
Cotton Fabric (part of a fat quarter)
sewing needle
all-purpose sewing thread
(and an iron, scissors, ruler, pencil, paper, sewing pins…)
Finished Size:
Adult, but also fits my 5 1/2 year old daughter (see photos below)
