I made this little hat to go with THIS little jacket. I couldn’t find a newborn sized hat, without a brim/ribbing, made in the moss stitch, so I had to create my own.

Materials Used:

Caron Simply Soft Brites yarn- Color Blue Mint

5.5 mm hook

Stitch marker

Finished Measurements:

To fit a baby size Newborn to 3 months (about 4.5 inches long, 13 inches circumference). The hat will measure about 5 inches long before you cinch the top opening closed.

5 stitches= 1 inch, 5 rounds= 1 inch, in pattern

Abbreviations Used (US Terminology):

Ch- chain

Sc- single crochet

Sk- skip

St- stitch

Sl st- slip stitch

Ch 66

Join last ch with the first ch, ch 1

Round 1- sc in the first ch, ch 1, sk the next ch, *(sc in the next ch, ch 1, sk the next ch), repeat from * around to the end, join with a sl st to the first sc  (66 sts)

Round 2- sl st into the first ch sp, ch 1, sc in same ch sp, ch 1, *(sk the next sc, sc in the next ch sp, ch 1) around to the end, join with a sl st to the first sc (66 sts)

Rounds 3- 26- repeat round 2 (or repeat until the hat is as long as you want it to be)

Fasten off.

Your work will look like a moss stitch tube now. Turn the hat inside out. Using a length of yarn, weave through every other loop of the beginning foundation ch. Pull tight to close the top of the hat. Secure the yarn, weave in the loose ends.
