Materials Used:
1 skein Red Heart Hello Gorgeous yarn, color “Sedona”
5.5 mm hook
5 mm hook (optional- for head band)
Yarn needle (for sewing in yarn tail)
Finished Measurements:
22” cirumference at head band, approximately 10” long
Gauge:
16 sts and 10 rounds, in pattern= 4.5 inches
Notes:
- If you would like a tighter head band, use a smaller (5 mm) hook for Round 22
- The Ch 1 at the beginning of each round does NOT count as a st
Abbreviations Used (American Terminology):
Ch- chain
St- stitch
Dc- double crochet
sp(s)- space(s)
Sl st- slip stitch
Dc2tog- double crochet two stitches together (decreases)
Hdc- half double crochet
Instructions:
Starting at the top of the hat, make a magic ring
Round 1- Ch 1 (does not count as a st here or throughout), (dc, ch 1) 8 times in the ring, join with a sl st to the first dc (8 dc and 8 ch-1 sps)
Round 2- Ch 1, (dc, ch 1) in the first dc, (dc, ch 1) in the first ch-1 sp, *(dc, ch 1) in the next dc, (dc, ch 1) in the next ch-1 sp., Repeat from the * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the first dc (16 dc and 16 ch-1 sps)
Round 3- Ch 1, (dc, ch 1) in the first dc, dc in the first ch-1 sp, *(dc, ch 1) in the next dc, dc in the next ch-1 sp. Repeat from the * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the first dc (32 dc and 16 ch-1 sps)
Round 4- Ch 1, (dc, ch 1) in the first dc, dc in the first ch-1 sp, dc in the next dc, *(dc, ch 1) in the next dc, dc in the next ch-1 sp, dc in the next dc. Repeat from the * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the first dc (48 dc and 16 ch-1 sps)
Round 5- Ch 1, (dc, ch 1) in the first dc, dc in the first ch-1 sp, dc in each of the next 2 dc, *(dc, ch 1) in the next dc, dc in the next ch-1 sp, dc in each of the next 2 dc. Repeat from the * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the first dc (64 dc and 16 ch-1 sps)
Round 6- Ch 1, (dc, ch 1) in the first dc, dc in the first ch-1 sp, dc in each of the next 3 dc, *(dc, ch 1) in the next dc, dc in the next ch-1 sp, dc in each of the next 3 dc. Repeat from the * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the first dc (80 dc and 16 ch-1 sps)
Round 7- Ch 1, (dc, ch 1) in the first dc, dc in the first ch-1 sp, dc in each of the next 4 dc, *(dc, ch 1) in the next dc, dc in the next ch-1 sp, dc in each of the next 4 dc. Repeat from the * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the first dc (96 dc and 16 ch-1 sps) **the crown of the hat will be slightly wavy, and this is ok.
Rounds 8- 11- Ch 1, (dc, ch 1) in the first dc, dc in each of the next 5 dc, *(dc, ch 1) in the next dc, dc in each of the next 5 dc. Repeat from the * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the first dc (96 dc and 16 ch-1 sps)
Round 12- Ch 1, (dc, ch 1) in the first dc, dc in each of the next 2 dc, dc2tog, dc in the next dc, *(dc, ch 1) in the next dc, dc in each of the next 2 dc, dc2tog, dc in the next dc. Repeat from the * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the first dc (80 dc and 16 ch-1 sps)
Rounds 13- 16- Ch 1, (dc, ch 1) in the first dc, dc in each of the next 4 dc, *(dc, ch 1) in the next dc, dc in each of the next 4 dc. Repeat from the * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the first dc (80 dc and 16 ch-1 sps)
Round 17- Ch 1, (dc, ch 1) in the first dc, dc in each of the next 2 dc, dc2tog, *(dc, ch 1) in the next dc, dc in each of the next 2 dc, dc2tog. Repeat from the * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the first dc (64 dc and 16 ch-1 sps)
Rounds 18- 21- Ch 1, (dc, ch 1) in the first dc, dc in each of the next 3 dc, *(dc, ch 1) in the next dc, dc in each of the next 3 dc. Repeat from the * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the first dc (64 dc and 16 ch-1 sps)
Round 22 (if you would like a tighter head band, use a size 5 mm hook for this final round)- Ch 1, hdc in each dc and in each ch-1 sp around. Join with a sl st to the first hdc (80 hdc) Fasten off.
