Christening Gown Set For 12” Porcelain Jesus Figurine

Materials Used:

Bernat Baby Sport 100% Acrylic light weight (“3”) yarn, about 300-350 yards, color White

4 mm hook

Stitch marker

Measuring tape

8- ⅜” white buttons

Yarn needle (for weaving in yarn ends)

Scissors

Gauge:

5 sc and 5 rows of sc= 1”

Finished Measurements:

Gown all measurements are of the buttoned closed garment. 

The sleevelength was made to cover the hand to the fingertips. 

The gown itself was made to be go a few inches past the feet. 

The photo above shows the sleeves and bottom hem of  the gown rolled up.

Length (collar trim to bottom trim)- 12”

Bottom Hem Circumference (closed/buttoned)- 16”

Chest Circumference (closed/buttoned) at Row 10 (before x-st pattern begins)- 10”

Collar Circumference (closed/buttoned)- 7”

Sleeve length from the top of the shoulder to the trim around the wrist- 6”

Sleeve circumference- 4”

Bonnet

10” around face (cheek to brow to cheek)

10” around neckline (cheek to base of neck to cheek)

8” from brow to over the crown of the head to the base of the neck

4” from neckline to the center top of the head

9” long chain ties on either side of bonnet

Booties not my original pattern, but these are the measurements the pattern I followed made:

Ankle circumference- 5 ¼”

Bootie height (ankle trim to base of foot)- 2 ¾”

Foot Length- 2 ¼”

Foot Width- 1 ¼”  

Abbreviations Used (American Terminology):

Ch- chain

Sc- single crochet

Sl st- slip stitch

X-st (Cross stitch)- skip the next stitch, dc in the next stitch, working behind the dc just made dc in the skipped stitch

Instructions:

Gown:

Starting at the neckline, Ch 37

Row 1-(RS)-  sc in 2nd ch from the hook and in each of the next 3 ch, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the next ch, *sc in each of the next 8 ch, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the next ch, repeat from * two more times, sc in each of the last 4 ch, ch 1, turn. (40 sc and 4 ch-1 sps/44 sts)

Row 2- (WS)- sc in each of the first 5 sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the first ch-1 sp, *sc in each of the next 10 sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the next ch-1 sp, repeat from * two more times, sc in each of the last 5 sc, ch 1, turn. (44 sc and 4 ch-1 sps/48 sts)

Row 3- sc in each of the first 6 sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the first ch-1 sp, *sc in each of the next 12 sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the next ch-1 sp, repeat from * two more times, sc in each of the last 6 sc, ch 1, turn. (48 sc and 4 ch-1 sps/52 sts)

Row 4- sc in each of the first 7 sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the first ch-1 sp, *sc in each of the next 14 sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the next ch-1 sp, repeat from * two more times, sc in each of the last 7 sc, ch 1, turn. (52 sc and 4 ch-1 sps/56 sts)

Row 5- sc in each of the first 8 sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the first ch-1 sp, *sc in each of the next 16 sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the next ch-1 sp, repeat from * two more times, sc in each of the last 8 sc, ch 1, turn (56 sc and 4 ch-1 sps/60 sts)

Row 6- sc in each of the first 9 sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the first ch-1 sp, *sc in each of the next 18 sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the next ch-1 sp, repeat from * two more times, sc in each of the last 9 sc, ch 1, turn (60 sc and 4 ch-1 sps/64 sts)

Row 7- (making the armholes)- sc in each of the first 10 sc, sc in the first ch-1 sp, sk the next 20 sc, sc in the next ch-1 sp, sc in each of the next 20 sc, sc in the next ch-1 sp, sk the next 20 sc, sc in the last ch-1 sp, sc in each of the last 10 sc, ch 1, turn (44 sc)

Row 8- sc in each of the first 10 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, sc in each of the next 22 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, sc in each of the last 10 sc, ch 1, turn (46 sc)

Row 9- sc in each of the first 11 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, sc in each of the next 22 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, sc in each of the last 11 sc, ch 1, turn (48 sc)

Row 10- sc in each sc across,  turn (48 sc)

Row 11- ch 3 (counts as a dc), *sk next sc, dc in next sc, dc in sk sc, repeat from * across to the last sc, dc in the last sc, ch 1, turn (23 x-st and 2 dc/48 sts)

Rows 12- sc in each dc across, ch 1, turn. (48 sc)

Row 13- sc in each of the first 3 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, *sc in each of the next 7 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from * four more times, sc in each of the last 4 sc, ch 1, turn (54 sc)

Row 14- sc in each of the first 4 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, *sc in each of the next 8 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from * four more times, sc in each of the last 4 sc, turn (60 sc)

Row 15- ch 3 (counts as a dc), *sk next sc, dc in next sc, dc in sk sc, repeat from * across to the last sc, dc in the last sc, ch 1, turn (29 x-st and 2 dc/60 sts)

Row 16- sc in each dc across, ch 1, turn (60 sts)

Row 17- sc in each of the first 4 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, *sc in each of the next 9 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from * four more times, sc in each of the last 5 sc, ch 1, turn (66 sc)

Row 18- sc in each of the first 5 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, *sc in each of the next 10 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from * four more times, sc in each of the last 5 sc, turn (72 sc)

Row 19- ch 3 (counts as a dc), *sk next sc, dc in next sc, dc in sk sc, repeat from * across to the last sc, dc in the last sc, ch 1, turn (35 x-st and 2 dc/72 sts)

Row 20- sc in each dc across, ch 1, turn (72 sts)

Row 21- sc in each of the first 5 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, *sc in each of the next 11 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from * four more times, sc in each of the last 6 sc, ch 1, turn (78 sc)

Row 22- sc in each sc across, turn (78 sc)

Row 23- ch 3 (counts as a dc), *sk next sc, dc in next sc, dc in sk sc, repeat from * across to the last sc, dc in the last sc, ch 1, turn (38 x-st and 2 dc/78 sts)

Row 24- sc in each dc across, ch 1, turn (78 sc)

Row 25- sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn (78 sc)

Row 26- sc in each sc across, turn (78 sc)

Row 27- ch 3 (counts as a dc), *sk next sc, dc in next sc, dc in sk sc, repeat from * across to the last sc, dc in the last sc, ch 1, turn (38 x-st and 2 dc/78 sts)

Repeat Rows 24 through 27 five more times, and then work Rows 24 through 26 again one more time.

Last Row/Trim (RS)- *Ch 2, sl st in next sc, repeat from * across to the end of the row.

Fasten off.

Sleeves:

With RS facing, attach yarn in the first sk sc of Row 7, to the left of the underarm, ch 1

Row 1 (RS)- sc in the same st, sc in each of the next 19 sk sc, join with a sl st to the first sc, ch 1, turn (20 sc)

Rows 2-3- sc in each sc across, join with a sl st to the first sc, ch 1, turn (20 sc)

Row 4- sc in each sc across, join with a sl st to the first sc, turn (20 sc)

Row 5- Ch 3 (counts as a dc), dc in the sc BEFORE the Ch-3, and now working to the left again, sk the sc to the left of the ch-3, dc in the next sc, dc in the sk sc, *sk the next sc, dc in the next sc, dc in the sk sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the top of the beg ch-3, ch 1, turn (10 x-sts/20 dc)

Row 6- sc in each dc across, join with a sl st to the beg sc, ch 1, turn (20 sc)

Row 7- sc in each sc across, join with a sl st to the beg sc, ch 1, turn (20 sc)

Row 8- sc in each sc across, join with a sl st to the beg sc,  turn (20 sc)

Row 9- Ch 3 (counts as a dc), dc in the sc BEFORE the Ch-3, and now working to the left again, sk the sc to the left of the ch-3, dc in the next sc, dc in the sk sc, *sk the next sc, dc in the next sc, dc in the sk sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the top of the beg ch-3, ch 1, turn (10 x-sts/20 dc)

Repeat Rows 6 through 9 two more times, and then repeat Rows 6 through 8 one more time

Last Row/Trim (RS)- *Ch 2, sl st in next sc, repeat from * across to the end of the row.  Join with a sl st to the base of the beg ch-2

Fasten off. Repeat for second sleeve.

Neckline/Collar:

With RS facing, attach yarn in the first unused loop of the FC

Row 1- Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in each of the next 3 ch, sc2tog, sc in each of the next 6 ch, sc2tog, sc in each of the next 8 ch, sc2tog, sc in each of the next 6 ch, sc2tog, sc in each of the last 4 ch, turn (32 sc)

Row 2- Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in each of the next 3 sc, sc2tog, sc in each of the next 4 sc, sc2tog, sc in each of the next 8 sc, sc2tog, sc in each of the next 4 sc, sc2tog, sc in each of the last 4 sc, turn (28 sc)

Row 3- Ch 1, sc in the same st, sc in each sc across, turn (28 sc)

Row 4 (WS) (Trim) – *Ch 2, sl st in next sc, repeat from * across to the end of the row.  Fasten off.

Buttonhole Band-

Starting at the bottom right hand corner, of the left back “panel” of the gown, with RS facing, join yarn in the side edge of the last row of sc’s (not in the trim row)

Row 1- Ch 1, sc in same st, make 1 sc in each of the next 2 edges of sc rows, make 2 sc in the edge of the next dc row, *make 1 sc in each of the next 3 edges of sc rows, make 2 sc in the edge of the next dc row, repeat from * 9 times (for a total of 50 sc from the beginning sc). Next, make 1 sc in the edge of each of the next 13 sc rows, plus 1 more sc in the base of the trim row. Ch 1, turn.  (64 sc along entire edge)

Row 2- sc in the first sc, ch 2, sk the next 2 sc, sc in the next sc, sc in each of the next 4 sc, *sc in the next sc, ch 2, sk the next 2 sc, sc in the next sc, sc in each of the next 4 sc, repeat from * across, ch 1, turn (8 buttonholes made)

Row 3- sc in each of the first 5 sc, make 2 sc in the ch-2 sp, *sc in each of the next 6 sc, make 2 sc in the ch-2 sp, repeat from * across to the last sc, make 1 sc in the last sc. Fasten off.

Button band-

Starting at the top edge of the right hand side back panel, with RS facing, join yarn in the side edge of the base of the “trim” row of the collar.

Row 1- Ch 1, make 1 sc in same st, make 1 sc in the side edge of each of the next 13 sc rows, *make 2 sc in the side edge of the next dc row, make 1 sc in the side edge of each of the next 3 sc rows,  repeat from * across (do not sc in the side edge of the bottom trim row), ch 1, turn (64 sc)

Row 2- sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn (64 sc)

Row 3- sc in each sc across. Fasten off.

Bonnet:

Starting at the back middle of the bonnet

Ch 3, join with a sl st to the 3rd ch from hook

Round 1- Ch 1, make 6 sc in the ring, join with a sl st to the first sc (6 sc)

Round 2- Ch 1, make 2 sc in each sc around, join with a sl st to the first sc (12 sc)

Round 3- Ch 1, sc in the first sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, *sc in the next sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc (18 sc)

Round 4- Ch 1, sc in each of the first 2 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, *sc in each of the next 2 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc (24 sc)

Round 5- Ch 1, sc in each of the first 3 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, *sc in each of the next 3 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc (30 sc)

Round 6- Ch 1, sc in each of the first 4 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, *sc in each of the next 4 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc (36 sc)

Round 7- Ch 1, sc in each of the first 5 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, *sc in each of the next 5 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc (42 sc)

Round 8- Ch 1, sc in each of the first 6 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, *sc in each of the next 6 sc, make 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc, ch 1 (48 sc)

Now begin making the body of the hat. This will be worked in rows, turning at the end of each row.

Row 1 (RS)- sc in the same sc as the ch-1 from Round 8, sc in each of the next 39 sc, ch 1, turn (40 sc) *leave the remaining 8 sts unworked

Rows 2-3-  sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn (40 sc)

Row 4- sc in each sc across, turn

Row 5- ch 3 (counts as a dc), sk the next sc, dc in the next sc, dc in the sk sc, *dc in the next sc, sk the next sc, dc in the sk sc, repeat from * across the row to the last sc, dc in the last dc, ch 1, turn (19 x-st and 2 dc/40 sts)

Row 6- sc in each dc across, ch 1, turn (40 sc)

Row 7- sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn (40 sc)

Row 8- sc in each sc across, turn (40 sc)

Row 9- ch 3 (counts as a dc), sk the next sc, dc in the next sc, dc in the sk sc, *dc in the next sc, sk the next sc, dc in the sk sc, repeat from * across the row to the last sc, dc in the last dc, ch 1, turn (19 x-st and 2 dc/40 sts)

Repeat Rows 6 through 9 one more time, then Rows 6 through 8 one more time

Last Row/Trim (RS)- *Ch 2, sl st in next sc, repeat from * across to the end of the row.  DO NOT fasten off.

Neckline-

Turn work so that you are now working along the left side edge of the body of the bonnet.

Row 1- Ch 1, work 17 sc’s evenly spaced across the side edges of each row, the 17th sc being placed in the side edge of Row 2 of the body of the bonnet. Next, make 1 hdc in the side edge of Row 1 of the body of the bonnet. Then, make 1 sc in each of the 8 unworked sc’s from Row 1 of the body of the bonnet, and then 1 more sc in the sl st join made at the end of Round 8 of the back of the bonnet.  Now, working along the side edges of each row on the right hand side of the body of the bonnet, make 1 hdc in the side edge of Row 1. And lastly, make 1 sc in the side edge of Row 2 of the body of the bonnet, and then work 16 more sc’s evenly spaced across the remaining side edges of the body of the bonnet. Join with a sl st to the base of the 1st st from the Trim from the body of the bonnet. Ch 1, turn. (43 sc and 2 hdc)

Row 2- make 1 sc in each st across,  turn (45 sc)

Row 3- Ch 50, turn, sl st in the 2nd ch from hook, and in each of the next 48 ch, then work across the remainder of the row, making 1 sc in each sc across (45 sc), ch 50, turn, sl st in the 2nd ch from hook and in each of the next 48 ch. Join with a sl st in to the side edge of the last sc made. Fasten off.

Booties:

I did not design my own bootie pattern. Instead I followed this pattern Doll Booties Crochet Pattern by Crochet ‘N’ More. Instead of using ribbons, I made chain ties for each bootie by making a chain of 85.
