Pretty Plain Jane Beanie- Free Pattern

Pretty Plain Jane Beanie

Materials Used:

About 5 oz of medium weight (4) yarn (I used an unlabelled skein which I got in a thrift store haul, the color is like creamy butter, and I used just about the entire skein)

Size 5 mm hook

Yarn needle (to weave in ends)

Sizing:

Adult (21.5” circumference, 8” long)

Gauge:

8 dc= 2”, 8 rounds (in alternating sc and dc rounds)= 2.5”

Abbreviations Used (American Terminology):

Ch- chain

Dc- double crochet

Sc- single crochet

St- stitch

Sl st- slip stitch

Fpdc- front post double crochet

Bpdc- back post double crochet

Instructions:

Starting at the crown, ch 3, join with a sl st to the first ch to form a ring

Round 1- ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout), make 7 dc in the ring, join with a sl st to the first dc (8 dc)

Round 2- ch 1, make 2 sc in each dc around, join with a sl st to the first sc (16 sc)

Round 3- Ch 3, dc in the same st, make 1 dc in the next sc, *make 2 dc in the next sc, make 1 dc in the next sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first dc (24 dc)

Round 4- ch 1, make 2 sc in the same st, make 1 sc in each of the next 2 dc, *make 2 sc in the next dc, make 1 sc in each of the next 2 dc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc (32 sc)

Round 5- Ch 3, dc in the same st, make 1 dc in each of the next 3 sc, *make 2 dc in the next sc, make 1 dc in each of the next 3 sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first dc (40 dc)

Round 6- Ch 1, make 2 sc in the same st, make 1 sc in each of the next 4 dc, *make 2 sc in the next dc, make 1 sc in each of the next 4 dc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc (48 sc)

Round 7- Ch 3, dc in the same st, make 1 dc in each of the next 5 sc, *make 2 dc in the next sc, make 1 dc in each of the next 5 sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first dc (56 dc)

Round 8- Ch 1, make 2 sc in the same st, make 1 sc in each of the next 6 dc, *make 2 sc in the next dc, make 1 sc in each of the next 6 dc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc (64 sc)

Round 9- Ch 3, make 1 dc in each sc around, join with a sl st to the first dc (64 dc)

Round 10- Ch 1, make 2 sc in the same st, make 1 sc in each of the next 7 dc, *make 2 sc in the next dc, make 1 sc in each of the next 7 dc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc (72 sc)

Round 11- Ch 3, make 1 dc in each sc around, join with a sl st to the first dc (72 dc)

Round 12- Ch 1, make 2 sc in the same st, make 1 sc in each of the next 8 dc, *make 2 sc in the next dc, make 1 sc in each of the next 8 dc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc (80 sc)

Round 13- Ch 3, make 1 dc in each sc around, join with a sl st to the first dc (80 dc)

Round 14- Ch 1, make 2 sc in the same st, make 1 sc in each of the next 9 dc, *make 2 sc in the next dc, make 1 sc in each of the next 9 dc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc (88 sc)

Round 15- Ch 3, make 1 dc in each sc around, join with a sl st to the first dc (88 dc)

Round 16- Ch 1, make 1 sc in each dc around, join with a sl st to the first sc (88 sc)

Rounds 17- 22- Repeat Rounds 15 and 16

Round 23- Repeat Round 15 again

Round 24- Ch 2 (does not count as a dc), fpdc in same st as join, bpdc in the next dc, *fpdc in the next dc, bpdc in the next dc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the top of the first fpdc (44 fpdc and 44 bpdc)

Rounds 25-26- Ch 2 (does not count as a dc), fpdc in the same fpdc as join, bpdc in the next bpdc, *fpdc in the next fpdc, bpdc in the next bpdc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the top of the first fpdc (44 fpdc and 44 bpdc)

Fasten off.
