Autumn’s Crossing Poncho

Materials Used:
Caron Simply Soft yarn- color Autumn Red- 5 ½ skeins
6 mm hook
Yarn needle, for weaving in ends
2 Stitch markers (to mark the neck opening)
Special Stitch- Cross Stitch- you make this by *making a dc in the first st, skipping the next st, then making a dc in the skipped st (working behind the last dc), and then repeating from the * across the row
Finished Measurements- each panel is approximately 34 inches wide by 24 inches long
Sizing- One Size Fits All
Gauge- 16 dc and 8 rows= 4 inches
Abbreviations Used (American Terminology)-
Ch- chain
WS- wrong side
RS- right side
Sc- single crochet
Dc- double crochet
Sk- skip
St- stitch
Xstitch- cross stitch
Instructions:
Back & Front Panels- make 2
Ch 131,
Row 1 (WS)- make 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, and in each ch across, ch 3 (counts as a dc for beginning of next row), turn (130 sc)
Row 2 (RS)- sk first sc, dc in the next sc, dc in the sk sc, *sk the next sc, dc in the next sc, dc in the sk sc, repeat from * across to the last sc in the row, dc in the last sc, ch 3 (counts as a dc for the beginning of the next row), turn (130 dc/64 xstitch and 2 dc)
Row 3- sk first dc, dc in the next dc, dc in the sk dc, *sk the next dc, dc in the next dc, dc in the sk dc, repeat from * across to the last dc in the row, dc in the last dc, ch 3 (counts as a dc for the beginning of the next row), turn (130 dc/64 xstitch and 2 dc)
Row 4- sk first dc, dc in the next dc, dc in the sk dc, *sk the next dc, dc in the next dc, dc in the sk dc, repeat from * across to the last dc in the row, dc in the last dc, ch 1, turn (130 dc/64 xstitch and 2 dc)
Row 5- make 1 sc in the first dc (same st as turning ch), make 1 sc in each of the next dc across to the end of the row, ch 3, turn (130 sc)
Repeat Rows 2 through 5 until about 24” long (or longer if you prefer)
Cut yarn, weave in ends, and block.
Finishing off- With the RS of each panel facing together, sew front and back panels together along shoulder seam, leaving about 10 or 11 inches for the neck opening (measure and place stitch markers evenly).
