Every once in a while I look through all of my old patterns and think about revising them, making changes so that they are improved, easier to read, easier to make, or just more appealing in general.
The Merry-Go-Baby hat pattern from about two years ago has been a rather popular pattern to readers. But it was only available in one size, and when I wrote the pattern I couldn’t even remember exactly what yarn I had used for it.
With this updated pattern, it’s now available in seven different sizes, all the way from newborn through adult. Also, I changed the instructions slightly. The join at the end/beginning of each round is now less visible (using a ch-1 rather than a ch-2, and making the first st of each round-which is also an increase st- in the same st as the join). With the seam being less visible, it makes the hat a lot cleaner in appearance (and you don’t have to worry about making sure the seam is on the back of the head when it’s being worn!). Plus! There is now a ribbed cuff, using front post and back post stitches.

Helpful Hints/Notes:
- The ch-1 at the beginning of each round does not count as a st. The first st of each round is worked in the same st that the ch-1 was worked in. This helps ensure a less noticeable join/seam.
- Each hat is worked from the top down in rounds

In the photo grid below, you can see the different color patterns the “White Rainbow” yarn makes. I like the variety, however, if you are familiar with how to do color pooling (which I am not, yet!) you could plan out your color pattern (or just use a solid color!). I didn’t have enough yarn left myself, but you could also place a pom pom on the top.

Is this the correct pattern? The fpdc completely changes what is shown in the picture

I’m sorry, I’m not quite sure I understand your question, but I hope this helps… The entire hat up to the ribbing is worked in Fpdc, and then bpdc isn’t used until the ribbing begins at the bottom of the hat. The pattern is the correct one to go with the photos. The original pattern that this revised pattern is based on is worked completely in Fpdc, with no bpdc stitching.
