Catch-All Basket (free pattern)

Here is another new pattern, which I believe to be ideal for the beginner crocheter. Using jumbo weight yarn and a large hook, it is very easy to see the stitches. Each basket uses one full skein of yarn, and the instructions are straight forward and easy to follow, and can easily be made in an hour.

Materials Used:

Red Heart Collage Jumbo weight (“7”) yarn, 80% acrylic/20 % wool, 5 oz/141 g; 55 yards/50 meters; Color 9980 “Forget-Me-Not” (1 skein makes 1 basket)

Size 9 mm crochet hook

Large eyed blunt sewing needle to weave in ends

Abbreviations Used (U.S. Terminology):

Ch- chain

Sl st- slip stitch

Sc- single crochet

Helpful Hints/Notes:

  • The ch-1 at the beginning of each round does not count as a st
  • The basket is worked in the round, with a sl st joining the last sc of each round with the first sc of the round

Gauge:  4 sc and 4 rounds= 2 inches, however, gauge is not overly important. The stitches have to be very tight and close together, which gives the basket it’s sturdiness and stiffness. If you find that your stitches are too loose, go down a hook size (or more), and if you find that your stitches are too tight, go up a hook size (or more)

Measurements:

Taller Basket- Approx. 4 ½ inches tall, 18 ½ inches circumference, diameter of base approx. 5 ½ inches wide
